Hay Lakes Home and School Association and the Hay Lakes Ladies' Circle 'S' Club. An opportunity arose when a multi-use complex was added onto the Hay Lakes Community Hall, and space was dedicated to house the library. It was felt that the Municipal Library would be more beneficial to Hay Lakes and Area residents if it were located on Main Street. The Library had grown considerably by 1976 and more space was needed to house the burgeoning collection. The first librarian was Mrs. Louise Nordin who remained in the position until the end of the school year in 1964. In 1961, the library was moved to the newly opened Hay Lakes School Library. Annual donations from these two groups, plus the matching government grant, provided fund for library growth. The latter donated the entire proceeds of their first annual tea and bazaar held in November, 1956. The new library was officially opened in its current location by Mr. E.J. Wiltshire, the Director of Alberta Library Services.
